An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine to join a progressive Older Persons' Service delivering high-quality, Consultant-led care across inpatient, outpatient and frailty pathways. The post holder will join a well-established multidisciplinary team and contribute to ongoing service development, education, and innovation within geriatric care. The department provides comprehensive services, including acute geriatric care, orthogeriatrics, stroke and rehabilitation pathways, falls and syncope clinics, and a front-door frailty service.
Job Responsibility:
Provide evidence-based care for older patients within inpatient and outpatient settings
Participate in MDT working with responsibility for shared ward rounds and management of complex frailty cases
Deliver Consultant-led care across geriatric wards, orthogeriatric pathways and short-stay units
Contribute to the development of subspecialty interests aligned with service priorities
Participate in the Consultant on-call rota and provide emergency clinical cover where required
Undertake clinical audit, quality improvement and continuing medical education
Support the Clinical Lead in service planning and strategic development
Lead quality improvement initiatives and contribute to governance processes
Supervise junior doctors and support training programmes across the department
Work collaboratively across divisions to improve patient pathways and service delivery
Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes
Support trainee supervision and mentorship
Engage in research, audit and professional development activities
Requirements:
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
MRCP (UK) or equivalent
CCT (or equivalent) in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine, or within 6 months
Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or eligibility)
Training across General and Geriatric Medicine
Clinical experience equivalent to UK CCT level
Expertise in the management of elderly care conditions
Ability to take independent clinical responsibility for complex patients
Demonstrated leadership within multidisciplinary teams
Support for subspecialty interests in geriatric medicine
Ability to prioritise workload and manage clinical services effectively
Evidence of audit involvement and management experience
Leadership and project management capability
Flexible working approach with strong organisational skills
Competent IT skills
Ability to teach and supervise trainees and multidisciplinary staff
Interest in multi-professional education
Strong teamwork and communication skills
