An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Gastroenterology to join a well-established multidisciplinary team in Scotland. This role offers a balanced mix of outpatient care, endoscopy, and general medical involvement within a supportive department focused on clinical excellence, service development, and education. The post is flexible, with opportunities to tailor the job plan around subspecialty interests and service needs.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide high-quality care in General Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Endoscopy services
  • Run weekly gastroenterology outpatient clinics
  • Perform and support elective and emergency endoscopy procedures
  • Participate in the consultant of the week model for referral vetting, clinical advice, inpatient support
  • Contribute to general medical unit and inpatient care
  • Work alongside multidisciplinary teams
  • Support ambulatory care services and acute admissions
  • Supervise and train junior doctors
  • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, service development projects
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education

Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • MRCP (or equivalent)
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • On (or within 6 months of entry to) the GMC Specialist Register in Gastroenterology
  • Minimum 1 year NHS experience
  • Competence in Gastroenterology, Endoscopy, General Internal Medicine

  • Higher degree (MD / PhD or equivalent)
