We are recruiting on behalf of a leading NHS teaching organisation in the East of England for a Substantive Consultant in Anaesthesia with a special interest in Pain Medicine. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine department delivering specialist chronic pain services alongside a broad range of adult anaesthetic practice. The successful applicant will become part of an experienced multidisciplinary team providing consultant-led pain management, peri-operative care and anaesthetic services across multiple surgical specialities.
Job Responsibility
Deliver consultant-led anaesthetic care across a wide range of adult surgical specialities
Provide specialist assessment and management of patients within the Pain Medicine service
Participate in regular Pain Medicine clinics, multidisciplinary meetings and intervention sessions
Undertake peri-operative assessment and optimisation of surgical patients
Participate in the general consultant on-call rota
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including specialist nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists and occupational therapists
Contribute to the development and expansion of Pain Medicine services
Participate in clinical governance, audit, appraisal, risk management and quality improvement programmes
Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, education and supervision
Participate in research, innovation and continuing professional development
Serve as a member of the Consultant Staff Committee and contribute to departmental leadership and service development
Requirements
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
FRCA or equivalent qualification
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Anaesthesia, or eligible for entry within six months of interview
Appropriate training and experience in Pain Medicine
FFPMRCA or equivalent qualification
Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCT in Anaesthesia
Experience providing consultant-level anaesthetic care across adult surgical specialities
Experience in the assessment and management of patients with chronic pain
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Evidence of engagement in research, audit and quality improvement
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Enthusiasm for service development and teaching
Commitment to developing a specialist interest in Pain Medicine
Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Willingness to work within shared clinical office environments
Flexible approach to working patterns and departmental commitments
Nice to have
MD, PhD or other postgraduate qualification (PGCert, PGDip, MSc)
ALS, EPLS or ATLS Instructor status (or equivalent)
Post-CCT experience in Major General Anaesthesia
Publications in peer-reviewed journals
Experience contributing to research projects and innovation
PGCert in Medical Education or equivalent
Up-to-date Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training
Strong interest in education, teaching and continued professional development
