Requirements

Medical Degree
MRCP or equivalent qualification
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine via: CCT, CESR / Portfolio Pathway, Or within 6 months of obtaining CCT
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Ability to demonstrate independent clinical experience, knowledge and expertise in Acute Medicine at Consultant level
Experience managing patients in acute medical settings
Strong knowledge of clinical governance and professional practice standards
Experience teaching medical students and postgraduate trainees
Experience supervising junior doctors

Job Responsibility

Provide consultant-level Acute Medicine services, delivering high-quality care for acutely unwell medical patients
Undertake rapid assessment, diagnosis and management of acute medical admissions
Deliver clinical care across key acute services, including: Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Emergency Department medical interface
Maintain responsibility for the clinical management of patients under their care, including inpatient and ambulatory pathways
Ensure safe, timely and effective patient care in accordance with national clinical standards
Participation in the General Internal Medicine (GIM) on-call rota
Provide consultant-level input for acute medical admissions during on-call periods
Work closely with Emergency Medicine, speciality medical teams, critical care services, and allied healthcare professionals
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborative clinical decision-making
Support the development of integrated patient pathways across acute services

Job Responsibility

Support the admission and assessment of patients referred from primary care and emergency services
Participate in the consultant on-call rota for General Internal Medicine
Provide specialist clinical advice to colleagues across the hospital and primary care
Contribute to the leadership, management and strategic development of the Acute Medicine service
Maintain clear clinical documentation and ensure effective communication with multidisciplinary teams
Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement and risk management activities

Job Responsibility

Provide clinical advice and support to emergency department clinicians and general practitioners.
Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and risk management.
Contribute to teaching, supervision and mentoring of junior doctors, physician associates and medical students.
