An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Hepatologist to join the dynamic and supportive Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department in the Yorkshire and Humber region. The department offers a collaborative environment, with the flexibility to design a portfolio career that aligns with your individual interests and skills. The post carries no mandatory commitment to the General Medicine on-call rota, offering an excellent work–life balance. The Hepatology service has recently achieved Level 2 IQILS accreditation, a testament to the high standards of liver care provided across the region. Job Responsibility:

  • Conduct hepatology outpatient clinics and actively engage with the hepatology multidisciplinary team (MDT)
  • Provide elective endoscopy services, including upper endoscopies and, where applicable, variceal surveillance, treatment, ERCP, and lower endoscopies
  • Manage inpatients with general gastroenterology conditions and provide out-of-hours GI bleed cover (1:9 rota)
  • Contribute to the continued development of hepatology and gastroenterology services across the region
  • Participate in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives
  • Provide teaching and mentorship to undergraduate students and junior trainees through collaboration with Hull York Medical School (HYMS)

Requirements:

  • Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent medical qualification

  • Demonstrable independent clinical experience and expertise in Hepatology at Consultant level
  • Competence in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
  • Proven experience in teaching and supervising junior medical staff
  • Eligible to work in the UK

Nice to have:

  • Substantive NHS experience
  • MD, PhD, or equivalent higher degree
  • Experience in hepatology-related research or publications
  • Experience supervising speciality registrars or holding a higher teaching qualification
