An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant Haematologist to join a progressive healthcare organisation in Scotland. The successful candidate will work closely with two established substantive consultants within a modern, purpose-built hospital facility, delivering high-quality clinical and laboratory haematology services to the regional population. This post offers a broad and rewarding role across malignant and non-malignant haematology, haemato-oncology, transfusion medicine, outpatient care, inpatient management and laboratory leadership. There is excellent scope to develop a subspecialty interest aligned with service needs and personal expertise.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver Consultant-led care for patients with a wide range of haematological disorders across inpatient and outpatient settings
Manage patients with haematological conditions, including malignant and non-malignant, such as haemato-oncology cases
Provide clinical leadership within the Haematology Laboratory and Blood Transfusion service
Participate in chemotherapy, new patient, and follow-up clinics
Undertake ward rounds and ongoing management of haematology inpatients
Provide expert clinical advice to primary care, secondary care and multidisciplinary teams
Participate in weekly MDT meetings, radiology discussions and regional cancer network meetings
Support blood bank governance, transfusion protocols and transfusion committee activities
Contribute to service development, innovation and quality improvement projects
Participate in audit, governance, appraisal and patient safety programmes
Teach and supervise junior doctors, speciality doctors, medical students and multidisciplinary staff
Participate in the consultant on-call rota (currently 1:3 with prospective cover)
Requirements:
MBBS or equivalent Primary Medical Qualification
Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
Entry on GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of CCT/CCST
FRCPath or equivalent recognised qualification
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Broad experience across Clinical Haematology
Experience in malignant and non-malignant haematology
Experience in Blood Transfusion services
Ability to independently manage inpatient and outpatient haematology cases
