An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist to join a well-established and forward-looking haematology service in the North East. The successful applicant will join an experienced consultant team and play a key role in delivering high-quality haematology care across inpatient, outpatient, and day-case settings, while contributing to the continued development of services within regional clinical networks. This is a whole-time post, with flexibility in job planning considered for the right candidate. There is scope to develop a specialist interest aligned with departmental and network needs.
Job Responsibility:
Provide comprehensive consultant-led haematology services across inpatient, outpatient, and day-case settings
Take continuing responsibility for the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care of patients under your care
Deliver expert haematology advice and liaison support to consultant colleagues in other specialities and to primary care
Participate in the inpatient management of haematology patients in collaboration with general physicians
Provide outpatient and day-case care, including chemotherapy, venesection, transfusion support, and bone marrow procedures
Participate in the haematology on-call rota, including weekday and weekend cover
Ensure continuity of care through appropriate cross-cover during colleagues’ annual leave, study leave, and sickness
Contribute to the planning and development of haematology services locally and across regional clinical networks
Work collaboratively with tertiary centres and regional MDTs for malignant haematology care
Participate in regional MDT meetings (including lymphoma, leukaemia, and myeloma)
Support the delivery of integrated haematology services across acute and community settings
Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
Engage in clinical audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities
Contribute to service evaluation and implementation of evidence-based practice
Support departmental education and multidisciplinary team development
Participation in research and clinical studies is encouraged
Opportunities exist to support and develop research interests in collaboration with regional partners
Requirements:
Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Haematology (mandatory)
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
Completion of Specialist Training in Haematology (CCT)
MRCP and FRCPath (or equivalent)
Broad and thorough training and expertise in haematology
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for patient care
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding of clinical governance
Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
IT literacy and the ability to work with electronic clinical systems
Nice to have:

Experience in clinical research or clinical trials
Evidence of service development or change management
