An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist to join a forward-thinking and collaborative haematology service in the North East region. This position offers the chance to contribute to a growing, integrated service that provides high-quality haematology care to a population of over 2.5 million people. The successful candidate will be part of a motivated and supportive multidisciplinary team committed to delivering exceptional patient outcomes. Job Responsibility:
Deliver high-quality clinical care across both clinical and laboratory haematology services
Provide specialist advice and management for a broad spectrum of haematological conditions, including both malignant and non-malignant disorders
Participate in outpatient clinics, inpatient ward rounds, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
Contribute to the development of a unified haematology service across the region, fostering collaboration and standardisation of care
Lead and participate in departmental quality improvement projects, clinical audits, and governance meetings
Support and deliver teaching for junior medical staff, nursing staff, and medical students
Contribute to the department’s strong clinical trials portfolio and research initiatives
Maintain accurate communication and coordination with GPs, laboratory services, and multidisciplinary colleagues
Participate in the consultant on-call rota for haematology
Ensure continuous professional development and participate in annual appraisals and job planning
Requirements:
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Broad experience in Clinical Haematology and Blood Transfusion
Ability to provide expert clinical opinions across a wide range of haematological disorders
Evidence of participation in audit, quality improvement, and governance activities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and colleagues
Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Enthusiastic, resilient, and adaptable under pressure
Strong leadership and organisational capabilities
Ability to travel independently between sites
Nice to have:
MD or PhD
Training in appraisal techniques or medical education
Demonstrated involvement in research or service innovation
