An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a progressive and supportive department in the Northern Ireland Region. Job Responsibility:
Deliver high-quality clinical care to gastroenterology and general medicine patients
Provide clinical leadership and supervision for junior medical staff and speciality doctors
Participate in inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology services, including endoscopy sessions
Ensure timely assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients while maintaining high standards of care and safety
Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with surgical and medical colleagues
Support service improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to clinical governance frameworks
Participate in audit, research, and quality improvement projects
Provide teaching and supervision for undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees
Maintain professional development through continuous medical education and appraisal activities
Requirements:
Complete GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine (or within 6 months of completion)
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or eligible via CESR or European Community Rights)
Broad experience in all aspects of gastroenterology, including endoscopy
Proven ability to manage both elective and emergency gastroenterology patients
Experience in teaching, audit, and clinical governance activities
Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
Nice to have:
Higher qualifications such as an MD, a PhD, or a Teaching Certificate
Completion of an Endoscopic Trainer’s Course
Evidence of published research or presentations at national/international conferences
Management or leadership training or qualifications
Experience in service development and multidisciplinary team leadership
