Job Responsibility:
Deliver consultant-led care in Gastroenterology, including outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and endoscopy activity as per the agreed job plan
Participate in the General Internal Medicine on-call rota
Provide expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with gastrointestinal conditions
Support acute care interfaces and emergency pathways where required
Maintain high standards of clinical documentation, safety, and professionalism
Contribute to the development of endoscopy services and acute gastroenterology pathways
Participate in service improvement initiatives supporting patient flow and quality outcomes
Deliver structured teaching and supervision for medical students and junior doctors
Participate in educational assessment, mentoring, and training programme development
Support the development of a positive learning environment
Participate actively in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and appraisal
Undertake audit projects and present findings
Critically evaluate research and apply evidence-based practice
Engage in research activity where appropriate
Contribute to the operational development of gastroenterology services
Demonstrate leadership within multidisciplinary teams
Support strategic service planning and delivery targets
Requirements:
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
MRCP or equivalent qualification
Complete registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (within 6 months of interview) or CESR
Eligibility to work in the UK
Demonstrated high-level clinical competence in Gastroenterology and General Medicine
Experience delivering consultant-level care across inpatient and outpatient settings
Experience in undertaking audits and applying evidence-based practice
Experience teaching and supervising junior clinicians
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Experience teaching and supervising medical students and junior trainees
Experience conducting audits and presenting findings
Ability to critically appraise clinical research
Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams
Strong organisational and leadership capability
Ability to manage workload effectively under pressure
Commitment to patient-centred care, governance, and continuous improvement
Strategic thinking and service development capability
Ability to travel between clinical sites as required
Nice to have:
MD or equivalent higher degree
Evidence of relevant research activity
