An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Diagnostic Neuroradiologist to join a large and well-established radiology department in the West Midlands. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative team of subspecialty neuroradiologists within a large multidisciplinary radiology service. The department provides advanced imaging services that support neurological, neurosurgical, and neurosciences specialities. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of neuroradiology services while supporting acute imaging services, multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical education.
Job Responsibility:
Provide consultant-level diagnostic neuroradiology reporting, particularly cross-sectional imaging for neurological conditions
Participate in 7-day diagnostic imaging services and on-call cover
Contribute to acute neuroradiology reporting, including stroke and urgent neurological imaging
Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings supporting neurology, neurosurgery and related specialities
Work collaboratively with radiologists, radiographers and clinical colleagues across neurosciences services
Provide supervision, teaching and training for radiology trainees, fellows and medical students
Support the development and expansion of neuroradiology imaging services
Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities
Contribute to service planning and development of imaging pathways
Maintain high standards of clinical reporting, communication and patient care across the imaging service
Requirements:
Medical Degree
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Clinical Radiology, or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview
Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD/CME)
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for UK CCT in Clinical Radiology
Demonstrated commitment to Neuroradiology
Ability to provide diagnostic neuroradiology opinions on acute and complex imaging cases
Ability to take full independent responsibility for patient care
Evidence of subspecialty training in Neuroradiology
Understanding of clinical governance and audit requirements
Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary clinical teams
Strong radiology reporting and diagnostic interpretation skills
Ability to manage competing clinical priorities
Understanding of NHS service delivery and performance frameworks
Knowledge of clinical governance, complaints management and ethical issues
Ability to analyse complex clinical information and make independent decisions
Experience teaching medical students and trainees
Ability to supervise postgraduate trainees
Participation in clinical audit and governance activities
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and multidisciplinary teams
Ability to work effectively under pressure and in complex clinical environments
Strong teamwork and leadership skills
Compassionate and patient-focused approach to care
Good IT skills
Occupational health clearance
Willingness to undertake flexible working, including evening or weekend sessions where required
Nice to have:
Higher degree (MD or PhD) or equivalent academic qualification
Expertise in a specific area of Neuroradiology
Experience in clinical research or project development
Experience obtaining ethical approval for clinical research
Evidence of innovation in clinical practice
Experience with formal audit publications
Ability to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of clinical programmes
Strong time management and organisational skills
Peer-reviewed research publications
Experience with research proposals or grants
