An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist to join a growing oncology service in the East of England. This is a senior consultant role with a specific focus on Upper GI cancers, alongside shared responsibility for the treatment and management of Lung cancer and Mesothelioma. The successful candidate will be expected to play a key role in delivering high-quality oncological care, supporting multidisciplinary cancer pathways, and helping to develop the service further in line with rising demand and evolving treatment pathways.
Job Responsibility
Lead the Clinical Oncology service for Upper GI cancers
Share responsibility for the treatment and management of Lung cancer and Mesothelioma
Deliver high-quality systemic anti-cancer treatment and radiotherapy planning/review for patients within these tumour groups
Work closely with colleagues across the regional cancer network to deliver local cancer services
Participate in and contribute to all relevant multidisciplinary team meetings, including Lung and Upper GI MDTs
Support the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) and the inpatient oncology ward service
Contribute to clinical trials recruitment, research activity and service development
Help develop clinical protocols, care bundles, governance and quality improvement initiatives
Teach, supervise and support junior doctors, trainees and medical students
Take an active role in leadership, audit, CPD and wider departmental development
Requirements
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
MRCP Part 1 and Part 2
FRCR
Full GMC registration and licence to practise
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register, or eligibility for entry / within 6 months of CCT or CESR at the time of interview
Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for UK CCT in Clinical Oncology
Wide experience in prescribing chemotherapy, including e-prescribing
Experience of Acute Oncology
Ability to meet the Specialist Generic Capabilities Framework criteria
Strong clinical, communication, leadership and multidisciplinary working skills
