An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Consultant Anaesthetist to join a well-established Anaesthetics Department in North West England. This role offers the chance to work within a modern and expanding service that provides comprehensive anaesthetic, critical care, maternity, perioperative, and pain management services across a broad range of surgical specialities. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest that complements the department's existing expertise while maintaining a broad anaesthetic practice. Job Responsibility
Provide high-quality anaesthetic care for elective and emergency surgical patients
Deliver anaesthetic services across a broad range of surgical specialities
Participate in the consultant on-call rota for anaesthesia, intensive care, and maternity services
Contribute to perioperative assessment and optimisation of patients
Support intensive care and high dependency services when required
Participate in obstetric anaesthesia and labour ward services, including epidural provision
Provide clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams
Participate actively in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement activities
Support the development of departmental services and patient pathways
Supervise and teach junior medical staff, trainees, medical students, and allied healthcare professionals
Maintain continuing professional development and appraisal requirements
Contribute to departmental educational programmes and governance meetings
Work flexibly across sites to maintain a broad range of anaesthetic skills and clinical experience.
Requirements
Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) or equivalent qualification
Completion of Higher Specialist Training in Anaesthetics or equivalent recognised competency
Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Anaesthetics, or within six months of entry at the interview date
Recent experience in Intensive Care Medicine and Maternity Anaesthesia at ST6/ST7 or Consultant level
High level of competence across a broad range of anaesthetic practice
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Audit processes
Commitment to teaching, training, and professional development
Ability to organise workload efficiently
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Ability to participate fully in emergency and on-call commitments
Ability to travel to meet service requirements.

Additional postgraduate qualifications
Higher degrees or relevant specialist training
Instructor status in ALS, ATLS, or APLS
Evidence of ongoing CPD in Intensive Care Medicine
Teaching or educational qualifications
Experience developing educational resources
Experience in District General Hospital practice

Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience
