Job Description:

The hospital operates seven days a week, with weekends being an integral part of the planned operating schedule and rota. The working pattern consists of nine sessions per week, each lasting five hours: 7 Clinical Sessions – The job plan includes Saturday sessions at least twice a month; 1 Supporting Programmed Activity (SPA); 1 Compensation Session for on-call commitment. You are expected to provide cross-cover for colleagues during periods of absence, including annual leave and study leave. You will provide anaesthetic services for elective procedures in the following specialties: Orthopaedics; General Surgery; Urology; ENT; Oral Surgery; Ophthalmology; Gynaecology; Pain Services; Endoscopy.

Job Responsibility:

  • Deliver high-quality, cost-effective patient care
  • Adhere to the work schedule as set by the Hospital Director
  • Provide comprehensive anaesthetic care for inpatients, day cases, and outpatients
  • Conduct pre- and post-operative patient assessments, ensuring clear communication with GPs regarding unsuitable cases or deferred treatments
  • Offer senior medical support to Resident Doctors (RDs) during normal hours and on-call, including patient transfers when necessary
  • Manage administrative responsibilities, including clinical coding, discharge summaries, and reports
  • Participate in clinical audits, governance programs, and the development of Clinical Quality Standards
  • Ensure efficient resource utilization and high-quality patient care
  • Contribute to anaesthetic service planning and hospital meetings
  • Support staff training and development
  • Engage in ongoing training, including mandatory courses such as CPR, Health & Safety, and Fire Safety

Requirements:

  • Maintain medical competence through GMC and Royal College of Anaesthetists revalidation and accreditation
  • Keep an updated Portfolio of Professional Practice
  • Participate in the annual Clinical Appraisal process
  • Uphold a patient-centered approach in interactions with staff, consultants, and patients
