Job Description:

The Construction Project Manager plays a critical role in delivering Microsoft’s datacenter capacity at the local campus/metro level. This role integrates construction, engineering, safety, operations, and vendor management activities to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Microsoft’s standards. You will drive data‑center fit‑out and integration activities, review engineering documentation, support risk and compliance programs, and serve as a safety advocate on job sites. Success in this role requires strong industry experience, sound technical judgment, disciplined project management, and the ability to partner effectively with internal teams, General Contractors, and subcontractors. You model Microsoft’s culture — Safety, Accountability, Integrity, Collaboration, and Inclusion — while championing high‑quality delivery in a fast‑paced mission‑critical environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Drive data center construction and integration activities on local/campus projects, providing technical input on fit‑out, constructability, and execution decisions
  • Facilitate timely, data‑driven decisions with project teams and stakeholders to maintain schedule, quality, safety, and budget objectives
  • Support campus teams in establishing project goals, assigning responsibilities, and assessing performance
  • Review engineering documentation, site plans, and building designs
  • identify risks, design gaps, and constructability issues, recommending solutions aligned with Microsoft standards
  • Assist in developing and communicating risk mitigation strategies, metrics, dashboards, and scorecards
  • Analyze safety and security metrics to drive action and accountability
  • Serve as an onsite safety leader and advocate, ensuring compliance with OSHA (or regional equivalents), Microsoft safety programs, and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct routine jobsite safety audits, security checks, and participate in incident investigations
  • Promote a “safety‑first, security‑first” mindset across GC, subcontractors, and partner teams
  • Monitor approved project budgets and support project controls processes (PERs, PSRs, Change Orders, Pay Applications)
  • Apply cost‑effective solutions and influence stakeholders toward financially responsible decisions
  • Provide accurate project data supporting KPIs, invoicing, policies, and reporting requirements
  • Collaborate effectively with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders to maintain alignment with project goals and corporate standards
  • Assist with developing RFPs, reviewing scopes of work, and supporting procurement and resource planning
  • Monitor vendor performance, ensuring compliance with contracts, NDAs, safety expectations, and prior audit results
  • Attend and advise during owner/architect/contractor (OAC) meetings, representing Microsoft’s interests and reinforcing safety and security priorities
  • Provide clear communication of project status, risks, KPIs, and progress to internal partners and external stakeholders
  • Help coordinate cross‑functional teams (Engineering, Operations, CSE, Legal, Project Controls, etc.) to maintain alignment with project vision and goals

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years related experience OR equivalent experience
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
  • Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Nice to have:

  • 7+ years experience working on data center projects
  • Experience supporting mission‑critical construction projects, including data centers, industrial, manufacturing, or high‑complexity environments
  • Demonstrated ability to Interpret engineering drawings and technical documents
  • Demonstrated ability to Manage scope, schedule, quality, and risk
  • Demonstrated ability to Navigate compliance and regulatory frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to Coordinate vendors and cross‑functional teams
  • Strong skills in safety leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and influencing without authority
  • Proficiency in construction planning, logistics, QA/QC, risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and incident management
  • Experience supporting or executing RFPs, PERs, procurement cycles, and vendor evaluations
  • Familiarity with Microsoft processes, Industry safety frameworks, Division 1 requirements, or similar enterprise construction standards
  • Ability to build strong relationships across GCs, subcontractors, internal teams, and external agencies
  • Demonstrated cultural alignment with Microsoft’s values — Model, Coach, Care — and commitment to safety, inclusion, and operational excellence
