The Construction Project Manager is a critical role responsible for delivering complex construction projects across General Motors either in manufacturing facilities, including assembly, stamping, powertrain, casting, and paint operations, or non-manufacturing sites such as labs and garages, vehicle engineering centers, technology centers, office complexes, design studios, and proving grounds. This role provides end-to-end construction project management leadership for assigned projects from funding approval through stakeholder occupancy, including site/civil, buildings, and utilities infrastructure.
Job Responsibility
Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex construction projects from funding approval through stakeholder occupancy, ensuring safe, timely, and cost-effective completion
Initiate, organize, and lead cross-functional project teams consisting of engineering, finance, purchasing, safety, contractors, stakeholders, and other key partners
Independently manage diverse, concurrent projects with minimal direct supervision, exercising sound judgment and discretion on significant project matters
Drive project scope, schedule, budget, risk, and performance metrics, establishing clear targets and holding teams accountable to aggressive delivery commitments
Solve difficult construction, schedule, infrastructure, stakeholder, and execution challenges using rigorous logic, data, experience, and sound professional judgment
Identify issues early, assess risks and downstream impacts, and develop practical, effective solutions when operating with incomplete information or limited precedent
Lead coordination across multiple internal and external partners, aligning stakeholders and influencing decisions without direct authority
Interface regularly with senior corporate leaders, public officials, development partners, utility providers, contractors, and governing municipalities to drive alignment, approvals, and project outcomes
Prepare and deliver clear, compelling presentations, recommendations, status updates, and decision materials for a wide range of audiences, including executive reviews and virtual collaboration sessions
Anticipate future construction and infrastructure issues by applying broad knowledge of design, construction execution, utility systems, and stakeholder needs
Identify opportunities to improve project delivery, internal processes, construction methods, and operating approaches to support broader functional and business strategies
Serve as a knowledgeable resource and mentor to less experienced team members and project partners on complex construction issues and project delivery practices
Demonstrate strong self-management by prioritizing effectively, meeting deadlines, maintaining momentum, and delivering high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment
Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
5+ years of project management experience in industrial, construction, infrastructure, or related technical environments
Proven experience leading facilities design and construction activities across multiple project phases
Working knowledge of construction contracts, engineering drawings, specifications, and project controls
Working knowledge of building codes, construction standards, and applicable regulatory requirements
Experience with construction safety requirements and Safety Contract Management processes
Experience managing project budgets, forecasts, change orders, and cost performance
Demonstrated ability to use metrics, analysis, and performance management tools to drive project execution and results
Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve complex problems, make sound decisions under pressure, and perform effectively in ambiguous situations
Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders without direct authority
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging across technical, business, executive, and external audiences
Strong presentation development and delivery skills, including the ability to lead presentations and virtual collaboration sessions across multiple audiences
Demonstrated ability to build credibility and maintain effective relationships with senior leaders, public officials, contractors, consultants, and external partners
Willingness to travel up to 50% to 75% domestically and internationally

Bachelor's degree in engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field
Experience managing complex capital construction projects across occupied, technical, industrial, or mission-critical facilities
Familiarity with the local market, entitlement environment, permitting processes, and local development landscape
Established professional relationships and strong standing with local city officials, governing municipalities, and regional development partners
