Souder, Miller & Associates is seeking an On Call Construction Observer II-IV to support the Transportation Tech Sector in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Construction Observer II-IV coordinates and observes the construction of road, bridge, storm sewer, drainage, water, sanitary sewer, and other public or private construction projects, assisting a project supervisor. Under the supervision of the Project Manager/Engineer, the ability to perform construction observation and effectively interact with Contractors, Clients, and SMA technical and administrative staff. Occasionally, may be responsible for assisting Project Engineers and Managers with scheduling and training for other Construction Observers. The Construction Observer should also be able to complete Constructability Reviews of design plans.
Job Responsibility:
Able to perform construction observation, effectively interact with Contractors, Clients, and SMA technical and administrative staff
Inspects work in progress to ensure that it is being constructed in accordance with plans and specifications
Must maintain the daily record of construction work and inspection activities, including material quantities, various testing
Must be familiar with testing requirements and methods
Able to read and understand the construction bid documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts
Maintains a red line set of construction drawings and assists the contractor with RFI’s review and material submittals
Attend various meetings as needed related to construction projects
Must know the Standard Specifications for Water and Wastewater Construction, Road Construction, and Building Construction in New Mexico and their application
Receives inquiries and complaints from residents and coordinates responses with the Owner and Engineer
Must be able to be a good communicator
Must know how to scale and measure distances
Must obtain measurements and report progress information, and place on an Inspector's Daily Report
Become thoroughly familiar with the plans and specifications for the job to be inspected
Check and quantify materials before installation
Point out potential problems to the contractor and project engineer, and keep the project engineer and supervisor informed of the progress of the project
Must be able to follow and carry out specific instructions on an independent basis
Must have basic math skills to compute quantities and costs when requested
Must be able to interpret and implement company-mandated safety policies
Be aware of and adhere to the Contractor’s Safety Plan
Capable of handling the large and complex projects, including multiple trades and/or crews
Capable of overseeing multiple projects with other RPRs
Responsible for job-specific quality system tasks as defined in the Resident Project Representative Manual
Assists the Project/Senior Engineer with further developing the quality manual, as needed
Ability to complete the Constructability Review of design plans
Ability to assist with data collection during the planning and design phase
Assists with training new staff in the Construction Observation position
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Required High School Diploma or GED diploma but preferred a college degree
Minimum of 3-year experience in the construction industry
Minimum 2-year construction inspection or management experience or the equivalent thereof
Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test and have an acceptable motor vehicle record in order to drive a company vehicle
