Our Construction Materials Team plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, safety, and performance of materials used in infrastructure and building projects. From concrete and asphalt to soil and aggregates, our team provides essential testing and analysis that support the structural integrity and compliance of construction efforts. The Construction Materials Testing Manager leads and develops a team of technicians and field staff, providing technical direction, mentorship, and oversight on a wide range of construction projects. This role ensures that project teams deliver high‑quality construction observation, testing, and documentation in alignment with Olsson’s standards and client expectations. As a CMT Manager, you will be responsible for managing QA/QC processes for construction assignments, reviewing complex technical issues, and serving as a senior advisor on challenging or high‑profile projects. Drawing on advanced experience, this position independently evaluates field conditions, interprets test results, and makes informed recommendations to verify the quality, safety, and compliance of materials and constructed elements. This role plays a key part in ensuring successful project execution by coordinating staffing, maintaining operational efficiency, supporting project managers, and fostering strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
Job Responsibility:
Direct, mentor, and support staff on the technical aspects of construction materials testing projects, ensuring effective coordination with all disciplines involved
Plan, implement, and oversee QA/QC processes for construction assignments, ensuring that project deliverables meet Olsson’s standards for accuracy, completeness, and technical excellence
Lead efforts to identify, organize, and deploy technical resources needed to support the group’s workload and project requirements
Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients, offering consultative guidance and solutions for construction‑related challenges
Continue to build and strengthen subject‑matter expertise in key construction materials and testing areas, contributing to the team’s technical growth
Provide senior‑level review of construction inspection and testing activities, acting as a resource for resolving complex technical issues across multiple projects
Support preparation of project studies by conducting research, performing field and laboratory testing, gathering data, and contributing technical insight as needed
Promote operational efficiency by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, improve workflows, and enhance the quality of project outcomes
Supervise, mentor, and review the work of less experienced staff, fostering professional development and consistent performance
May be required to work in all types of terrain and weather conditions and on project sites in various stages of construction
Requirements:
Associate degree in a construction-related field preferred
A minimum of 10 years of experience in a construction-related field
Preferred certifications: OSHA 30
American Concrete Institute (ACI) Grade I
ATTI Asphalt and Soils
National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) I/II
ICC certification in one or more of the following categories: Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete
