We are currently seeking a Construction Material Technician to join our Road Surfacing Team in the Northwest. As a Construction Material Technician, you will be responsible for efficiently and effectively assisting in the quality assurance Road Surfacing projects. To conduct onsite and offsite materials testing and update electronic records.
Job Responsibility:
Performing quality checks and keeping record on site
Perform site tests on road surfacing works, including Surface Texture and Rolling Straightedge
Operate a site coring rig to extract test cores from the road surface and to perform core reinstatements
To sample aggregate, bituminous and unbound and earthworks materials
To perform testing in a safe and efficient manner, both in the laboratory and on contracting sites/plant.
To conduct daily organoleptic checks for lab, production facilities and all stockpiles
To maintain a safe and tidy workspace and ensure the efficient running of the laboratory
To maintain quality standards by following Company and accrediting bodies quality procedures and protocol.
To record sample details on test record sheets and laboratory software.
To prepare for inspections from independent accrediting bodies
To undertake daily equipment checks and calibrate testing equipment.
To assist with all material related complaints & provide suitable & sufficient feedback & evidence to support.
To provide technical cover for other contracts within UK & Ireland.
Requirements:
Educated to GCSE standard (or equivalent)
Experience of working in a team environment, providing information and support to colleagues
Ability to be flexible in working hours, working night shifts or weekends if required
Computer literacy, knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel
Driving Licence to enable the post holder to fulfil the duties of the role
Nice to have:
Experience working within a similar role and/or within a Testing Laboratory or the wider construction, asphalt, concrete or quarrying industry
Experience of working with recognised accreditation standards, ie BS, ISO
Understand and have knowledge of all current UK (BS EN) standards, for aggregates, asphalt and concrete
