The Ruhlin Company is seeking to hire a CONSTRUCTION DESIGN ENGINEER for its corporate office in Sharon Center, Ohio. This position reports to the Chief Engineer. Summary: Assist the Chief Engineer with the creation of major submittals that require a Professional Engineer’s stamp as well as all major methods that require either a Professional Engineer’s stamp or a thorough review with calculations. Perform all minor submittals for review by the Chief Engineer.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and design accurate temporary civil and structural submittals including but not limited to, erection and demolition plans, and support of excavation designs with consideration made to standard safety factors and practices
Review shop drawings as required by the project
Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work
Ensure completed work complies with all applicable standards, codes, and specifications
Review, analyze and resolve field construction problems
Assist project teams to optimize means and methods, utilizing in-house materials where possible, to develop efficient construction designs
Advise estimators on pre-bid means and creative methods that may be utilized during construction
Prepare for and attend pre-construction and hand-off meetings
Perform jobsite visits when submittals/plans are being installed or in use to look for possible improvements
Communicate and reinforce the Company vision, values, and goals
Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering
2 years’ experience in a similar construction environment preferred
Fundamental Engineer certification required
Ability and desire to obtain a Professional Engineer license
Ability to read and interpret construction documents
Strong computer skills, including CADD
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
Knowledge of and prior use of construction methods
Strong organizational, multi-tasking, time management and problem-solving skills
