Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Construction Bookkeeper to oversee day-to-day accounting operations for our construction business. The ideal candidate will have direct experience working in the construction industry and demonstrate advanced proficiency with QuickBooks. This role is integral to maintaining accurate financial records, supporting project cost tracking, and ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage all bookkeeping functions, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, bank reconciliations, and general ledger entries
  • Monitor job costs and maintain detailed records for multiple construction projects, including tracking expenses, progress billing, and change orders
  • Prepare and submit invoices to clients
  • follow up on outstanding receivables
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies promptly
  • Process employee timesheets and ensure accurate payroll for field and office staff
  • Generate financial reports, including profit/loss statements, balance sheets, and job cost summaries using QuickBooks
  • Collaborate with project managers to review budgets and report on actual costs vs. projected costs
  • Support month-end and year-end closings, assisting with audits as necessary
  • Maintain organized digital and paper records, adhering to company and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with subcontractor documentation, lien waivers, and compliance tracking
  • Provide administrative support to accounting and construction teams as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of bookkeeping experience within a construction environment (residential, commercial, or industrial)
  • Strong proficiency with QuickBooks (desktop and/or online), including financial reporting and job cost tracking
  • Working knowledge of construction accounting practices, including progress billing and retainage
  • Ability to read and interpret construction contracts, change orders, and pay applications
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
