Job Description:

A vacancy for a Constellations Satellite Systems Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Madrid (Getafe). The successful applicant will join the EOS Chief Engineering Department in Spain. We are seeking a highly skilled Constellations Satellite Systems Engineer with background in small satellite and constellation systems development. In this role, you will lead the engineering efforts for satellite development projects, with a particular emphasis on the industrialization, design-to-cost and design-to-manufacturing of small- and mid-sized satellites. The main focus of this position is the development of ISR constellations for national and European customers. You will work in a multi-disciplinary system engineering team and will be a key contributor to the on-cost, on-time and on-quality product delivery to our customers.

Job Responsibility:

  • Acting as satellite chief engineer, lead the engineering team in the design, development, and testing of satellite systems, ensuring adherence to project requirements and industry standards
  • Establish constellation concepts responding to customer requirements and needs, deriving from the constellation concept the constellation system, satellite, platform and payload requirements
  • Establish Concepts of Operations meeting stakeholders expectations
  • Define the overall development schedule of satellite systems, with a focus on technology maturation processes, establishing and maintaining internal and external dependencies
  • Drive the adaptation of existing satellite product lines to ensure satisfying customer requirements while enabling mid-scale industrialization of the satellite concept
  • Define the satellite product breakdown structure, and identify industrial partners for its development
  • Maintain the overall engineering schedule for the satellite system, aligned with the development logic
  • Remain accountable for the OTOQOC execution of engineering activities in the satellite system development and implementation
  • Establish end-to-end performance budgets, ensuring flow-down of performance requirements to platform, payload, subsystems and equipment
  • Maintain end-to-end performance budgets, including the bottom-up verification process
  • Drive the verification and validation activities throughout the satellite lifecycle, from initial concept to on-orbit operation
  • Lead / Contribute to the execution of program milestones and reviews
  • The deployment of novel engineering methods, processes and tools (e.g. MBSE, multi-disciplinary analyses, concurrent design engineering…)
  • The digitalisation of our design, development and manufacturing processes (e.g. DDMS), and their smooth implementation across all involved disciplines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Proven experience required in: Systems engineering applied to satellites
  • Systems engineering processes, methods and tools
  • Mission analysis, constellation deployment strategies, multi-orbit analyses (LEO, VLEO, up to planetary transfers)
  • ECSS Standards
  • Satellite functional and AOCS/GNC subsystems
  • Space systems verification and validation
  • CONOPS definition and derivation of requirements
  • Coordination of program milestones and reviews
  • Schedule, risk and cost control
  • Strong background in optical performance and/or AOCS/pointing performance, and associated budgeting
  • Deep knowledge of the processes and methods of space systems development, verification and validation, including industrial implications
  • Experience in developing and executing functional validation tests on platform and spacecraft level
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for satellite development and testing, such as ECSS, MIL-STD, and CCSDS
  • Languages: Spanish
