The Configuration Management (CM) Analyst/Engineer is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining effective configuration management processes across all hardware, software, and documentation baselines for government and defense programs. This position ensures the integrity, traceability, and control of product configurations throughout the lifecycle — from development through production, deployment, and sustainment.
Job Responsibility:
Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Configuration Management Plan (CMP)
Define configuration management policies, procedures, and tools
Establish and manage configuration identification baselines
Assign and maintain configuration item (CI) identifiers, part numbers, and document control numbers
Administer the Engineering Change Control (ECC) and Change Control Board (CCB) processes
Maintain complete and accurate records of configuration data
Prepare and deliver required configuration status accounting (CSA) reports
Plan, coordinate, and support configuration audits (FCA, PCA)
Control the creation, review, approval, release, and distribution of technical data, drawings, and software documentation
Maintain the configuration management database or digital repository
Ensure configuration requirements are flowed down to suppliers and subcontractors
Identify opportunities for process improvement within CM workflows
Assess risks to configuration integrity and implement mitigation strategies
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
8+ years of experience in configuration management, data management, or related engineering disciplines in a defense, aerospace, or government contracting environment
Experience supporting Government programs requiring configuration control of hardware and software baselines
Familiarity with systems engineering processes, design documentation, and product lifecycle management
Thorough understanding of configuration management principles, processes, and best practices across hardware and software systems
Working knowledge of DoD and industry configuration standards such as MIL-HDBK-61A, EIA-649, and ISO 10007
Experience implementing and managing CM tools (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Windchill, PTC Integrity, JIRA, DOORS, Git, or equivalent)
Strong analytical, documentation, and organizational skills with attention to detail and traceability
Ability to interface effectively with engineering, quality assurance, program management, suppliers, and customers
Familiarity with document control practices, data management, and technical data package (TDP) requirements
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of reports, plans, and CDRL deliverables
Willing to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplined environment, engaging and collaborating with multiple key stakeholders on a regular basis
Nice to have:
Certification in configuration management (e.g., CMII, CMPIC, or NDIA certification)
