Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Paving Superintendent to lead our heavy paving operations across a variety of civil infrastructure projects. This role is critical in streamlining operations, improving efficiency, and ensuring high-quality execution of roadwork and heavy civil scopes. The ideal candidate will bring extensive knowledge in concrete and heavy paving, including curb & gutter, barriers, retaining walls, and road paving. This position requires strong leadership in the field and the ability to work collaboratively across crews to ensure smooth project delivery.

Job Responsibility:

  • Oversee and manage all paving-related operations on site, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and to spec
  • Confers with and directs construction personnel in the execution of procedures, interpretation of specifications, and coordination of various phases of construction
  • Operate paving machinery as needed (especially for operator-level candidates)
  • Procure materials in alignment with the project schedule, ensuring timely delivery and availability
  • Inspect work in progress, monitor materials usage and costs, and make schedule adjustments based on progress and reporting
  • Provide clear leadership and support to construction crews while actively participating in construction tasks when necessary
  • Coordinate with project management, field engineers, and subcontractors to maintain alignment with project goals
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, GPS grading logs, and crew activities
  • Support layout and grading using GPS-enabled equipment
  • Identify and resolve inefficiencies or delays in paving operations

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in heavy civil construction with a focus on paving
  • Prior experience paving roads, installing curb & gutter, working with retaining walls, and other heavy civil structures
  • Strong preference for candidates with superintendent-level experience
  • foreman-level will be considered
  • Proficient with GPS machine control systems and layout (Trimble preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Strong leadership, communication, and crew management skills
  • Willingness and availability to travel for extended periods based on project needs
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • First Aid, CPR, and Respirator Training

  • Work with Project Manager/Estimator to develop project schedules and updates

  • Participate in project meetings with contracting agencies and customers
  • Participate as required in pre-bid and post job meetings to evaluate performance and profitability of project
  • Interface daily with crew to ascertain their needs, problems and job progress
  • Make sure that crew timecards are turned in, coding is correct, equipment and labor hours are recorded accurately
  • Check daily cost sheets for correctness, compliance with estimated cost, and if over budget, find out why and report to project manager
