Job Description

We are looking for a Computational Linguist (Portuguese) with a strong background in linguistics and hands-on experience in data analysis, annotation, and scripting. This role bridges linguistic quality and technical implementation, supporting the evaluation and improvement of AI language systems.

Job Responsibility

  • Analyze and interpret linguistic and phonological data using internal tools and scripts
  • Run automated and manual quality checks on model outputs
  • provide data-driven insights
  • Review and annotate Portuguese content for linguistic accuracy, cultural nuance, and consistency
  • Support dataset creation, cleaning, and formatting for machine learning workflows
  • Collaborate with technical teams to refine evaluation metrics and data pipelines
  • Document linguistic findings and create reproducible analysis reports

Requirements

  • Ability to work EU shifts remotely
  • Native speaker of Portuguese with strong command of English
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or similar
  • Understanding of phonetics, phonology, syntax, and semantics
  • Comfortable working with structured data formats (JSON, XML, CSV)
  • Familiarity with Python, command line interfaces (CLI), or Unix environments
  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to linguistic detail
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a data-driven environment

Nice to have

  • Experience with linguistic annotation or dataset processing for AI/NLP projects
  • Knowledge of machine learning workflows, text-to-speech (TTS), or NLP model evaluation
  • Experience with Python libraries (pandas, NumPy) or toolkits (NLTK, spaCy)
  • Prior experience in companies like Appen is a plus
  • MSc in Computational Linguistics or Speech and Language Processing preferred
