Grimshaw is looking for a Computational Design Specialist to join our London Design Technology team. This role supports project teams in the strategic application of computational design, contributing to project discussions, enabling advanced workflows, and promoting appropriate tools and methodologies. Alongside hands-on project support, you will help shape and advance the studio’s Design Technology strategy, develop and document best practice, and strengthen wider computational design capability across the practice. You will bring deep technical knowledge, communicate complex ideas clearly, and may represent the studio externally.
Job Responsibility:
Supporting project teams with computational design workflows, troubleshooting, guidance and hands-on help
Running training sessions in Rhino, Grasshopper, Dynamo and programming languages
Advising teams on when and how computational approaches can add value
Documenting workflows and helping to maintain global CD standards
Continually and proactively seeking to identify opportunities to improve existing workflows or capabilities
Contributing to London DT initiatives and attending regular team meetings
Documenting exemplar work, sharing knowledge and collaborating with the wider global CD team
Contributing to global standards, resources and content libraries
Requirements:
Advanced proficiency in Rhino and Grasshopper
Working knowledge of at least one programming language (C#, Python, Java, etc.)
A degree in architecture, engineering, architectural technology, or a related field
At least three years of experience applying computational design in practice
Nice to have:
Familiarity with Grasshopper plugins such as Kangaroo, Ladybug or Honeybee
Experience with automation, data-driven workflows, or AI-assisted design tools
Knowledge of Revit, Dynamo, GIS or Climate Studio
Knowledge of interoperability, particularly between Revit and Rhino
