Job Description

The Composite Technician II works with new aircraft parts, using oven processes, fabricating of aircraft component molds, and vacuum techniques, and maintains and repairs composite aircraft components made of fiberglass and other carbon materials. Responsible for understanding Army technical manuals, drawings and blueprints, and have working knowledge of precision tools.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform lay-up techniques that include pre-pregs or wet lay-up, cutting, bagging, and/or trimming operations or machine operations
  • Layout, pre-fits, assembles and casts polyurethane and like material on a variety of molds and surfaces
  • Load and operate presses, ovens, and autoclaves
  • Select tooling and materials compatible with the processing techniques identified in the work instructions
  • Handle regulated and hazardous wastes and materials
  • Safely work in a team environment rigging, lifting, and transporting large parts and equipment
  • Use computers to record data (excel), track time (Auto-time)
  • Perform casting of materials to fabricate parts and/or for repair applications
  • Fabricate polyurethane and like materials into subassemblies for the purpose of pre-fitting in preparation for bonding
  • Perform complex composite lay-up, vacuum bagging, cutting, repair, autoclave and / or trimming
  • Verify work to ensure a defect free part prior to presenting to quality control (inspection)
  • Read and interpret drawings and technical manuals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Composite certification from accredited college
  • 3-5 years of experience in composite manufacturing repairs
  • Precision Tool experience (i.e. Dial Calipers, Hot Bonder, Torque Wrenches, Vacuum Pump, etc.)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance
  • Ability to work overtime when required.

  • Performs the duties of an NDI Level II Technician IAW NAS-410 and JBA-EA-2741 and is certified for specific techniques in a given method of non-destructive inspections for aircraft, engines, and ground support equipment
  • Performs both on and off equipment maintenance
  • Performs certified tasks with minimum supervision
  • Performs non-destructive inspections of aircraft, engine components, and ground support equipment, using ultrasonic, eddy current, fluorescent penetrant, magnetic particle, and optical inspection techniques
  • Performs NDI testing, including that associated with TCTO related inspections, IAW applicable technical data
  • Notifies maintenance personnel regarding the extent and location of each defect detected during NDI activities and documents each defect on applicable forms
  • Uses and inputs data in Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS) computers
  • Accomplishes process controls and performs operator maintenance of assigned NDI equipment
  • Accomplishes joint oil analysis program analysis in support of the Department of Defense as a regional laboratory encompassing approximately 18 agencies and 560 different oil-wetted components
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable safety, housekeeping, tool control, and FOD prevention programs
