Job Description:

The Component Laboratory Technician I assist in the production of life-saving blood products. This entry-level role requires a team-oriented individual eager to learn in a regulated environment (FDA-compliant). No experience necessary—paid training provided! Flexibility with shifts (nights, weekends, holidays) is essential for this 24/7 operation.

Job Responsibility:

  • Follow organizational policies and ensure compliance with Blood Bank of Hawaii Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and FDA regulations
  • Provide high-quality customer service to all internal and external stakeholders
  • Receive, prepare, and manage whole blood and apheresis blood components
  • Perform daily production maintenance, quality control (QC), and inspections of blood components
  • Produce cryoprecipitate and plasma cryoprecipitate reduced and ensure all blood products are accurately labeled and quarantined when necessary
  • Coordinate and pack blood samples for testing and submit required test orders for donor testing
  • Handle recovered plasma, ensuring it’s properly packed for further manufacturing
  • Troubleshoot common equipment issues and escalate problems to the appropriate team members for resolution
  • Always ensure proper usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in the lab
  • Adapt to new tasks and responsibilities as needed and assist in the smooth operation of the lab

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills—clear and legible handwriting is essential
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask efficiently
  • Good problem-solving and judgment skills with the ability to take the initiative and follow through on tasks

  • Develop test methods, execute system and component-level verification, and lead test planning efforts to evaluate electronics design changes
