Job Description

Complex Needs Teaching Assistant role in a mainstream primary school in Shoreham, providing hands-on, adaptive support for a child with complex needs. The position is temp-to-perm, starting ASAP, with hours from 8:30am to 3:30pm.

Job Responsibility

  • tuning into emotional cues and helping the child self-regulate
  • adjusting activities so learning feels accessible and achievable
  • reducing sensory overwhelm and creating a calm space when needed
  • working closely with teachers and external specialists
  • ensuring the pupil is safe, supported and included throughout the school day

Requirements

  • experienced in supporting complex SEN (ASD, sensory needs, communication differences, medical/physical needs, or behavioural challenges)
  • patient, grounded and consistent
  • quick to build trust, slow to judge
  • able to stay calm under pressure
  • confident working 1:1 and following personalised plans
  • reliable, professional and genuinely committed to long‑term support
  • holding a DBS on the Update Service or ready to apply right away
