Job Description

We are looking for a calm and resilient Complex Needs Assistant to support pupils with SEND, SEMH, and behavioural needs across schools in Hailsham. The role focuses on de-escalation, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour support to help pupils stay engaged in learning.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and complex needs
  • Use trauma-informed, proactive de-escalation techniques
  • Support pupils with self-regulation and identifying triggers
  • Help maintain a positive, structured classroom environment
  • Build supportive relationships that promote wellbeing and engagement
  • Record behaviour incidents and contribute to support plans
  • Work closely with teachers, support staff, and families

Requirements

  • Experience with children/young people in SEND, SEMH, or behaviour-support settings
  • Calm, empathetic, and resilient under pressure
  • Proactive and flexible, able to work across different school settings

Nice to have

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
  • Knowledge of de-escalation, restorative practice, or trauma-informed approaches
