Job Description:

BHSI has an exciting opportunity for a Complex Claims Director in our New York City, Atlanta, or Chicago offices. The Complex Claims Director will independently handle a diverse pending of high-severity claims underwritten out of the Financial Institutions and Commercial (i.e., Public Company) teams, focusing mainly on Financial Institutions, Errors & Omissions, Directors & Officers, and Fiduciary. This role will have a high level of interaction with internal customers (senior management, underwriters, and actuaries) as well as external customers (brokers, insureds, and defense counsel).

Job Responsibility:

  • Independently evaluate information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of exposure to the insured and the company
  • Attend mediations of complex claims on behalf of the company and effectively negotiate settlements
  • Provide outstanding customer service to, and seamlessly work with, the insured, broker, and underwriters in the handling and adjudication of claims
  • Analyze and draft coverage letters as appropriate and communicate coverage positions effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Draft reports, set reserves within the authority, or make claim recommendations concerning reserve changes
  • Travel to conferences, mediations, and client meetings as necessary

Requirements:

  • Typically 5-7+ years of relevant claims or legal experience

  • Manage interactions with insurance companies, requiring knowledge of surety policies, and coordinate with legal counsel on claims proceedings including depositions, motions, and document reviews
  • Prepare for mediation, dispute resolution boards, and court proceedings by drafting high-level documents and strategies
