Job Description

At Helzberg the Compensation Manager manages the compensation functions for the organization which includes the management of job documentation, job evaluation, salary administration, performance appraisal administration, and compensation analyses. The position will monitor the compliance of existing compensation policies, guidelines and procedures and recommend program revisions/enhancements which are consistent with compensation trends and business objectives. This position works closely with Finance to monitor budgeted expenses and make adjustments as needed. This position will assist the HR Field Managers, Store Operations team, Regional and Store Managers with compensation inquiries and will work directly with leadership positions on promotion and new hire compensation recommendations.

Job Responsibility

  • Develop compensation programs for Store Operations and the Store Support Center to ensure competitive, fair pay practices to attract and retain superior associates
  • In conjunction with managers develop and maintain job descriptions for all positions, and complete job evaluations to ensure internal equity and FLSA compliance
  • Stay up to date on minimum wage and salary threshold requirements. Track and enter minimum wage and salary changes for associates in Workday to ensure compliance. Send email to store leadership to communicate any changes
  • Review and update pay ranges for Store Operations and Store Support Center to ensure competitive structures
  • Consult with Store Operations and Store Support Center managers on pay issues to ensure fair, equitable and competitive pay practices
  • Assist with creating, analyzing, and updating Store Operations and Store Support Center variable pay programs. Work with Finance on updating the metrics within the Variable pay program documents
  • Update and distribute variable pay program documentation and communications to Store leadership
  • Review and update bonus tracking tables for Regional & Store Managers' bonuses at the end of each fiscal month
  • Track special payments (retention, etc.) and enter special payments in HRIS system to be paid on correct pay date
  • Complete salary survey submissions
  • Determine comparable market and price jobs as needed to ensure external competitiveness for attraction and retention of top talent
  • Serve as system administrator for market pricing system including maintaining and updating jobs, pay ranges, associate data, and salary survey data
  • Prepare monthly pay grade audits within Workday. Make adjustments as needed
  • Prepare quarterly audits for On-call and temporary positions for compliance to company guidelines
  • Enter job and compensation transactions in HRIS system for Store Support Center. Audit and maintain data to ensure accuracy
  • Gain approval from CEO for all new and backfill positions. Notify recruiting when a position is ready for posting
  • Approve all offers within the Store Support Center (SSC)
  • Serve as administrator for performance review system including configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining processes for performance management. Assist with the performance management processes for Store Operations including revising and distributing materials and ensuring historical tracking of appraisals and performance ratings
  • Manage and administer merit increase process for Store Operations and the Store Support Center. Prepare detailed merit increase analyses to provide accurate cost estimates for annual performance appraisal cycles. Upload pay increases into HRIS system
  • Prepare Store Manager, Regional Manager and Store Support Center merit statements and deliver to appropriate leadership during the annual merit process. Upload statements to associates profile in Workday
  • Prepare and upload Store Support Center annual bonus statements and program documents into associates profile in Workday
  • Set up, launch and close in Workday a monthly store merit process. Monitor submission and send update reports to the HR Field Managers to follow up with appropriate store leadership
  • Prepare Quarterly Turnover reports for HR Leadership
  • Responsible for preparing the SSC Wage budget and both the SSC and Store Bonus budgets. Responsible for maintaining and adhering to prepared bonus budgets
  • Keep SSC Wage Budget spreadsheet updated throughout the year for finance related questions
  • Maintain internal HR organizational chart
  • Make all job changes and supervisor updates in Workday. Enter all new hires into Workday

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance or related area is required
  • CCP, PHR or SPHR strongly preferred
  • Five to seven years of Compensation experience to include job documentation, compensation analysis, base and variable pay program administration is required
  • Must possess strong decision making and analytical skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects at a time, prioritizing workload effectively
  • Strong communication skills with ability to interact, influence and align with all levels of the organization, both internal and external effectively
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills required
  • Hybrid schedule with predictable onsite attendance required three days per week to perform essential functions involving interactive behaviors with co-workers and managers
