Community Safety Officer

• Undertake inspections, surveillance, and investigations to assess compliance with legislation and issue infringements or notices when necessary
• Provide specialist advice to the public, handle animal-related issues, and foster community understanding of responsible ownership
• Collect evidence, take statements, and prepare detailed Briefs of Evidence for external bodies
• Implement education programs and maintain a professional, helpful manner when dealing with the public
• Provide operational back fill and support for Local Nuisance, Litter Control, and Bush fire Prevention roles during peak times
• Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records within Council databases to be used as evidence if required

• Proven background in an investigative or compliance-based role, preferably within Local Government
• Solid understanding of relevant Acts (specifically the Dog and Cat Management Act) and the ability to interpret complex technical information
• Advanced verbal and written skills, with the ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts in complex situations
• Skilled in Microsoft Office and maintaining detailed electronic records
• While a Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) is highly desirable, your practical experience in animal behaviour and field work is what truly counts
• You must hold an unencumbered Australian driver’s licence and a current National Police Clearance
