Job Responsibility:

  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to ensure programs meet client and donor needs
  • manage yearly budget and allocate resources effectively
  • recruit, train, and engage volunteers including veterans and community members
  • develop and implement therapeutic activities such as art, music, pet, physical, or equestrian therapy for veterans
  • coordinate activities for military-related observances including Memorial Day and Veterans Day
  • promote events and wellness activities through community outreach
  • maintain activity spaces, supplies, and equipment
  • organize morale-boosting events for staff and residents
  • serve as liaison with legal partners and coordinate legal support programs
  • manage Homeless Court Program processes including participant screening and liaising with legal stakeholders
  • coordinate monthly court sessions and track outcomes
  • represent VVSD in Homeless Court Program Steering Committee meetings
  • collaborate with municipalities on veteran legal cases
  • lead coordination of annual Stand Down event serving homeless and at-risk veterans
  • oversee volunteer recruitment, training, and coordination for large volunteer base
  • manage participant application process with VA, DCSS, and court systems
  • build and maintain relationships with application sites and community partners
  • use platforms like InitLive to manage event coordination
  • establish and maintain community partnerships to expand veteran services access
  • identify and implement new programs to meet veteran needs
  • represent VVSD in outreach and promote collaboration with local agencies and military groups

Requirements:

  • Ability to bend, lift light objects, and sit for extended periods
  • comfortable working in busy, active, and sometimes noisy environments
  • regular interaction with residents, staff, volunteers, and legal professionals
  • must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, recreation therapy, social work, or related field or equivalent professional experience
  • minimum 2-3 years of experience in transitional housing, nonprofit, or project management
  • certified Activity Professional (CAP) preferred
  • familiarity with military culture and Veterans Affairs systems
  • experience coordinating large events, legal clinics, or community outreach programs
  • strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and online platforms
  • valid California driver's license and auto insurance
  • CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain
