The Community Connections Program Facilitator will support adult newcomers to Canada through planning and facilitating relevant and responsive group programming to enhance successful settlement in the community.
Job Responsibility:
Planning and facilitating life skills sessions using relevant, interactive methods for learners of various backgrounds and levels
Facilitating group sessions according to annual and quarterly plans and schedules
adjusts according to Funder requirements
Planning and facilitating topical workshops and events
Providing an inclusive and engaging learning environment for participants
Coordinating and facilitating and/or supporting weekly conversation circles, as needed
Providing participants with information and assisted access to other settlement services
Creating and maintaining multimedia and print materials, as needed
Ensuring that appropriate supports for participation are in place for clients
Developing marketing materials and recruiting clients for sessions
Using knowledge of community resources to make referrals for clients as needed, internally and externally
Supporting clients with referrals to medical and mental health services as needed
Requirements:
A diploma in Social Services, Community Development, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
Demonstrated experience with program design and facilitation
Strong knowledge of issues and barriers faced by immigrants and refugees in the community
Well-developed written, verbal, and active listening skills
able to communicate effectively and respectfully with people of diverse backgrounds
Ability to work with diverse groups and accommodate diverse needs, such as language levels and learning styles
Flexible and a positive team player
Well-developed organizational and time management skills
able to manage competing priorities
Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
Strong recruitment and marketing skills
Well-developed computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365 and use of databases
Knowledge of settlement processes for newcomers to Canada
A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment
Nice to have:
Prior experience working in a non-profit environment is an asset
The ability to speak, read, and write in an additional language (Dari or Arabic) is an asset
First Aid certificate is an asset
A valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driver’s record is an asset
Regular access to a vehicle is an asset
