The Littleton Police department will be conducting a selection process for the appointment of full-time Communications Officer. This process will also be utilized to create a list of candidates that will expire in 1 year. A Communications Officer for the LPD is responsible for the appropriate response to emergency and non-emergency calls received in the 911 Call Center. This position of Communications Officer is a union position within Local 204a of the Massachusetts Coalition of Police and is therefore subject to all clauses within the contract between the town of Littleton and the union. This position is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
Job Responsibility:
Appropriate response to emergency and non-emergency calls received in the 911 Call Center
Activation and use of outside resources such as mutual aid communities, MA State Police, Life Flight, District 6, ALS, NEMLEC, and CEMLEC
Operate dispatching equipment, paging equipment, call logger, fire alarm, two-way radio equipment, police scanner, various computers, and standard office equipment
Utilize Registry computers and associated software, Sex Offender Registry, Immigration and Customs, Board of Probation, Division of Families and Children, Closed Circuit TV and associated hardware in monitoring station security and prisoners in custody, dispatch recording devices for the purpose of call review and information checking, internal and external fire-alarm panels
Work additional hours as a Civilian Traffic Regulator once certified
Requirements:
High school education
one year of related experience
experience in a public safety dispatching/communications position preferred
knowledge of and participation in fire services
knowledge of on-call/volunteer fire organizations
military experience
or any equivalent combination of education and experience
LEAPS/NCIC certification (must have upon hire or obtain within probationary period)
Certification in enhanced 911 systems through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (must have upon hire or obtain within probationary period)
APCO Dispatcher 1 Certification (must have upon hire or obtain within probationary period)
Certification in CPR (must have upon hire or obtain within probationary period)
Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification (must have upon hire or obtain within probationary period)
First Responder (must have upon hire or obtain within probationary period)
Suicide Prevention Certification (must have upon hire or obtain within probationary period)
Nice to have:
