Job Description

Merrick is seeking a Commissioning Engineer II to become part of our growing Life Sciences Commissioning team. Basic office hours are 8:00 am MT to 5:00 pm MT, Monday thru Friday and is a hybrid schedule. Occasional overtime could be needed with short notice. This position may also require some minimal travel.

Job Responsibility

  • Coordinate, perform and oversee detailed field commissioning services, assessments, and studies for all types of facilities/systems including the following: laboratories, nuclear spaces, hospitals, clean rooms
  • Generate commissioning plans
  • write commissioning specifications
  • develop commissioning installation checklists and functional test procedures
  • verify and validate commissioned systems controls and equipment
  • document commissioning process, develop final commissioning report, and develop systems manuals

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering OR a (2) Year Technical Associates Degree from an accredited institution with practical commissioning, controls, or testing experience
  • Must have five (5) years or more experience in the commissioning of these systems: HVAC (air and hydronic), controls, plumbing, laboratory equipment, fire protection, security, and/or electrical systems
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience
  • The client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick’s insurance carrier
  • Frequent travel to project/client locations is required with possible international travel

Nice to have

  • Experience in the commissioning of bio-containment laboratory facilities (BSL3, BSL3Ag, BSL4)
  • Experience in commissioning of other types of high-tech, mission-critical facilities
  • Experience with HVAC controls systems and protocols (e.g. JCI, Siemens, ALC, BACnet, Modbus, etc)
  • Experience with construction administration
  • LEED/Green Globes/Guiding Principles Compliance
  • PE, BCxP, CxA, LEED AP
  • Be ambitious and flexible

  • Be a Self-starter and independently motivated individual
  • Must be able to work as a member of a close team and be able to work independently as necessary

  • Experience coordinating with owners and contractors, as well as the ability to lead project meetings are necessary skills
  • Have the ability to generate accurate, detailed reports
  • Have the ability to read and understand building drawings, specifications, and submittals
  • Have knowledge of controls systems and control sequences
  • Be proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Familiarity with AutoCad and/or Revit will be considered an asset
  • Possess, or be able to obtain, a US security clearance
  • Achieve commissioning certification under ASHRAE, ACG and/or BCA within the first three years of engagement
