Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised Commis Chef to join our professional kitchen team in Goldsmiths. This is an excellent opportunity for a culinary professional who is passionate about food preparation and eager to develop their skills within a dynamic, collaborative catering environment. You will work alongside experienced chefs, contributing to the delivery of high-quality cuisine whilst maintaining the highest standards of food safety and presentation.

Job Responsibility

  • Assist in food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients with precision and efficiency
  • Prepare and maintain mise en place to support smooth kitchen operations during service
  • Support senior chefs with cooking, plating, and presentation of dishes to exacting standards
  • Maintain exemplary standards of kitchen cleanliness, organisation, and hygiene at all times
  • Follow all food safety, allergen control, and health and safety procedures meticulously
  • Contribute to special event catering and function support as required
  • Develop culinary techniques and knowledge under the guidance of experienced kitchen staff
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure seamless coordination during service
  • Demonstrate flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Take responsibility for personal professional development and continuous skill improvement

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and consistency
  • Excellent understanding of food hygiene, safety practices, and allergen control procedures
  • Reliable team player with a positive, flexible, and collaborative attitude
  • Good organisational and time-keeping abilities
  • Physical stamina and capability to work standing for extended periods
  • Effective communication and people skills
  • Willingness to learn, develop, and take on feedback constructively

Nice to have

  • Previous experience working in a professional kitchen or catering environment
  • Relevant culinary training or qualification (such as NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Professional Cookery)
  • Experience in a high-profile catering, hospitality, or education setting
  • Basic knife skills and food preparation techniques
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment and food preparation methods
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and best practice in professional kitchens is advantageous
