Job Description:

Lawes Consulting is recruiting two Commercial SME Underwriters for a growing Manchester team. One role requires 5+ years’ SME underwriting or trading experience; the other suits candidates with 1-2 years’ experience keen to develop. Both will underwrite diverse SME risks, build broker relationships, and work in the Manchester office at least three days a week to support team collaboration and growth.

Job Responsibility:

Underwrite a broad range of SME commercial risks with sound risk assessment
Manage new business and renewals efficiently to meet agreed targets
Develop and maintain effective trading relationships with brokers
Collaborate with team members to support business growth objectives
Ensure underwriting decisions comply with company guidelines and risk appetite
Represent the business professionally in all client and broker interactions

Requirements:

Minimum 5 years’ underwriting experience in trading or a related field for the senior position
1-2 years’ experience with a proven ability to learn and develop quickly for the junior role
Proven ability to manage a varied portfolio of SME risks
Experience working with brokers in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
Strong understanding of underwriting disciplines, risk assessment, and pricing
