Job Description:

The District of North Vancouver is looking for an adaptable, self-motivated, customer-service oriented individual for a regular full-time position as a Commercial Plans Reviewer/Building Inspector 1. Job Responsibility:

  • Examination and checking of plans and permit applications for compliance to building and zoning bylaws and related regulations
  • Processing building permit issuances and rejections
  • Discuss construction, alteration and repair matters with contractors, engineers, architects, homeowners and the public
  • Interpret requirements
  • Advise on required changes and/or corrections
  • Determine compliance
  • Inspect residential, industrial and commercial projects during construction, alteration and repair to determine conformity with established bylaws, acts, codes, standards and regulations

Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of building construction practices and methods
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant by-laws, acts, codes, standards and regulations
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and related material to recognize technical requirements and suggest changes
  • Ability to process applications through a variety of municipal departments
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a variety of internal and external contacts
  • Ability to prepare reports, records and correspondence related to the work
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
  • BOABC member in good standing and have achieved a BOABC Level 3 qualification or possess an exempt professional designation
  • Completed Grade 12 plus an apprenticeship in the carpentry trade or graduation from a post-secondary institution with a diploma in Building Technology and sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s Licence

  • Responsible for the proper filling of bag products to comply with specifications and customer requirements
  • Ensure proper operation and care of packaging equipment to maximize bag filling efficiency and maintain bag weight accuracy
  • Ability to operate, problem solve, and make necessary adjustments to the Bag Packers, Palletizer and Stretch Wrappers
  • Continuously inspect all bagging related equipment to detect mechanical problems and ensure employee safety
  • Perform a wide variety of general manual labour work, requiring repetitive heavy lifting, shoveling, handwork, climbing, and performing work at different heights
  • Assist in any equipment operation and servicing when needed using basic tools to accomplish the work such as shovels, brooms, wheelbarrows, etc.
  • Cleaning of spilled lime and limestone product and residue on top of, under and out of different locations throughout the plant
  • Perform all work assigned in a neat and orderly manner adhering to Lhoist safety rules and WorkSafe regulations
  • Report any potential operational or safety problems to management
