We’re looking for a Commercial Manager to take ownership of a key customer portfolio within our Bulk & Containerised Freight business. This role is focused on protecting value, strengthening customer relationships and providing steady commercial leadership in a complex operating environment. You’ll work alongside other Commercial Managers, with clear accountability for your portfolio and the opportunity to influence how commercial decisions are made day‑to‑day.
Job Responsibility:
Leading and developing a multidisciplinary commercial team that has oversight of customer relationships, contract performance, renewals and expansions of service offerings across an established revenue base
Leading senior customer engagement, managing complex negotiations while building strong, long-term relationships
Ensuring revenue quality, pricing discipline and customer service outcomes are maintained and continuously improved
Providing commercial leadership across demand planning, contract tenure and portfolio performance
Contributing to the development of market analysis and commercial intelligence, identifying opportunities, risks and competitive dynamics
Leading commercial input into pricing, commercial risk assessment and business case development
Overseeing the preparation of customer proposals, EOIs and tender responses, in close collaboration with operational teams
Playing a key role in business unit strategy and planning, including market outlook, customer demand and commercial strategy
Acting as a conduit between the business unit and enterprise strategy and planning functions
Partnering closely with Finance on budgets, forecasts and Corporate Plan updates
Requirements:
Proven ability to influence and negotiate across diverse stakeholder groups in a matrixed organisation
Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging at executive level
Strong business acumen and strategic thinking, with the ability to translate insight into clear commercial plans
Experience in rail, logistics or similarly complex operational environments, or the capability to quickly build industry knowledge
A collaborative leadership style, with a track record of building relationships and leading teams for results
Ability to provide executive‑level recommendations, grounded in data, analysis and sound commercial judgement
Strong commercial management capability, including pricing, financial control, analytical thinking and complex problem‑solving
Demonstrated integrity, accountability and reliability in all business interactions
