Job Description

At Octopus Energy for Business (OEB), we are an established and rapidly scaling energy supplier with more than 120k business customers. We are reinventing Britain’s business energy market by rejecting brokers, delivering great value and outrageously good customer service to all customer segments, pioneering PPA-backed supply for I&C customers through Electric Match and leading the market for SME smart tariffs with Shape Shifters. Operating within Octopus Energy Group, we are committed to helping business customers meet their energy needs through technology, renewables and flexibility. To do this to the fullest extent, we are now expanding our capabilities beyond supply, smart products and PPAs. To help large businesses solve for escalating energy bills, site resilience and net zero, we will also install and optimise low carbon tech at their sites. This role will be one of the first hires to the team building out OEB’s I&C behind-the-meter capabilities. This team will build a clean energy behind-the-meter offering for OEB’s customers. Working closely with existing Group companies focused on on-site wind and solar, this role will lead on the build out of OEB’s on-site proposition with a strong focus on integrating behind-the-meter batteries and flexibility into Octopus’s B2B solution set.

Job Responsibility

  • Develop commercial proposals and business cases for on-site low carbon tech solutions to save customers money, support site resilience and reduce carbon emissions
  • Lead sales and commercial management for the initial I&C on-site project pipeline as we begin to gain traction in this market
  • Work with Legal teams to develop the required suite of contracts to support low carbon on-site solutions
  • Work closely with teams across OE Group and form partnerships with 3rd parties to stitch together the necessary capabilities and channels for commercial activation of our behind-the-meter propositions. E.g. Octopus’s flexibility and generation teams, 3rd party financing partners, solar EPCs and battery OEMs

Requirements

  • Professional experience and track record in distributed energy, on-site low carbon solutions and services for I&C scale business customers
  • Broad commercial expertise including some or all of sales, contract management, commercial modelling and pricing
  • A technical grounding in low carbon technology, in particular on-site solar and battery systems
  • Knowledge of flexibility markets and how optimised remotely managed systems can unlock additional customer value
  • Hunger for professional accountability and a willingness to get your hands dirty to make things happen in the early stages of a new venture, combined with the capacity to excite and mobilise a large and successful Group to support you
  • The capacity to deal with ambiguity and to bring clarity and build momentum with customers and internal team members
