A respected Maryland law firm is seeking an experienced Commercial Litigation Attorney with a strong background in bankruptcy and creditors’ rights to join its growing practice. This attorney will represent financial institutions, lenders, creditors, servicers, and commercial clients in complex litigation, insolvency matters, workouts, and bankruptcy proceedings. The ideal candidate will bring strong courtroom experience, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage matters independently from inception through resolution.
Job Responsibility
Handle a broad range of commercial litigation matters in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts
Represent secured and unsecured creditors in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy proceedings
Manage creditors’ rights matters, including motions for relief from stay, objections, adversary proceedings, claim disputes, and contested hearings
Advise clients on loan enforcement, collections strategy, workouts, restructurings, and insolvency-related risk
Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and settlement agreements
Conduct legal research and develop case strategy for complex commercial disputes
Appear in court for hearings, motions, mediations, and trials as needed
Collaborate with partners and clients to deliver practical, business-focused legal solutions
Maintain and build strong client relationships through responsive service and sound legal counsel
Requirements
J.D. from an accredited law school
Active Maryland bar admission in good standing
D.C. and/or Virginia admission is a plus
4+ years of experience in commercial litigation with significant bankruptcy and creditors’ rights experience
Strong knowledge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, bankruptcy rules, and relevant state law remedies
Experience representing creditors, financial institutions, lenders, or loan servicers preferred
Excellent writing, research, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
Ability to manage a busy caseload independently while working collaboratively with a legal team
Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and client service orientation
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active membership in the Maryland Bar in good standing
At least 5 years of litigation experience, with a strong background in commercial or complex business disputes
Demonstrated ability to draft persuasive motions, briefs, pleadings, and discovery-related materials
Experience using legal research platforms such as Westlaw or LexisNexis, along with familiarity with e-filing and eDiscovery tools
Strong courtroom, negotiation, and client counseling skills in matters involving contract, regulatory, partnership, or intellectual property disputes
Ability to organize multiple active cases, meet deadlines consistently, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain legal strategy and risk to business clients
Knowledge of industries frequently involved in commercial litigation, including areas such as financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, or government-related matters
