Job Description

Carrier Commercial Service is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to oversee commercial mechanical focused on data centers. This role is responsible for the startup, commissioning, and warranty management of Carrier air- and water-cooled chillers. The Project Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, commissioning authorities, general contractors, and subcontractors. The job sites are located in the Ohio Valley region – including Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. Travel from a nearby regional home location is acceptable. Please note that extensive travel, with several weeks spent on-site at the project jobsite, is required.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead startup, commissioning, and warranty processes for Carrier air- and water-cooled chillers in newly constructed data centers
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, ensuring schedules and budgets are met
  • Track and review key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor project success
  • Conduct work in progress meetings with stakeholders, addressing design, material delivery, and labor schedules
  • Ensure all projects meet or exceed booked profit margin goals
  • Work with project coordination to order and track all chiller parts needing to be ordered for warranty execution
  • Collaborate with sales, prime contractors, and end-users to fulfill project scope and deliverables
  • Serve as the primary liaison representing Carrier between the customer, commissioning authority (CxA), general contractor, and subcontractors, ensuring smooth communication and project progression
  • Provide professional, timely resolution for customer concerns, ensuring satisfaction with all aspects of project execution
  • Interpret and apply mechanical, electrical, and architectural drawings to ensure compliance with design specifications
  • Ensure adherence to industry codes, standards, and project specifications
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation System (BAS) integration, ensuring proper controls functionality
  • Manage the change order process, preventing scope creep and maintaining project integrity
  • Accurately forecast monthly revenue by estimating project completion costs
  • Manage project documentation, including warranty processing and factory-generated service information in collaboration with our Service Engineering team
  • Maintain rigorous job safety standards across all projects

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of project management experience
  • 3+ years in mechanical installation, building automation, electrical installation, or construction
  • 3+ years’ experience with water- or air-cooled chillers
  • 3+ years of Commercial HVAC expertise, including centrifugal chillers, CDU systems, and airside equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and complex MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) documents
  • Travel Requirement: Up to 75%, with extended stays at data center job sites nationwide

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering OR a Master’s/MBA
  • Data center industry experience with water- or air-cooled chillers
