Job Description:

Commercial counsel position focused on revenue and procurement contracting. You’ll be the go-to partner for deal flow, helping to streamline negotiations, reduce friction, and coach non-legal stakeholders so they feel confident engaging Legal early and often.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead negotiation and drafting of customer and commercial agreements to enable faster deal closure while maintaining appropriate risk protections for hx
  • Shape and streamline the procurement contracting process by introducing clear approval thresholds, standard fallback positions, and playbooks that help stakeholders self-serve
  • Partner with Sales, Procurement, and Finance to embed Legal earlier in deal cycles, providing practical guidance and training that build confidence in engaging Legal as a strategic partner
  • Modernise and standardise core commercial templates (including customer agreements, procurement contracts, NDAs, DPAs, and order forms) so they are robust, scalable, and easy for the business to use
  • Manage end-to-end deal flow for a high volume of commercial and procurement contracts, triaging effectively, tracking progress, and ensuring timely resolution of negotiations
  • Identify recurring risks and friction points across contracts and processes, and translate them into simple policies, playbooks, and process improvements that make commercial contracting more efficient and consistent

Requirements:

  • Acted as a commercial counsel (in-house or seconded) with primary responsibility for negotiating and drafting complex commercial and/or SaaS customer agreements and procurement contracts
  • Led contract negotiations directly with counterparties’ legal and commercial teams, demonstrating the ability to balance legal risk with commercial outcomes and to secure pragmatic compromises
  • Designed or materially improved contracting processes or legal operations (e.g. template suites, playbooks, approval matrices, clause libraries) that reduced cycle times or increased self-serve
  • Built strong cross-functional relationships with Sales, Procurement, Finance, and other stakeholders, influencing decision-making and helping teams understand acceptable risk and negotiation boundaries
  • Juggled a high-volume contract portfolio, using clear prioritisation and structured ways of working to keep deals moving while maintaining quality and consistency
  • Proactively identified legal, commercial, and operational risks in agreements and proposed proportionate mitigation strategies aligned to a defined risk appetite
What we offer:
  • £5,000 training and conference budget for individual and group development
  • 25 days of holiday plus 8 bank holidays (33 days total)
  • Company pension scheme via Penfold
  • Mental health support and therapy via Spectrum.life
  • Individual wellbeing allowance via Juno
  • Private healthcare insurance through AXA
  • Income protection and Life Insurance
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Top-spec equipment (laptop, screens, adjustable desks, etc.)
  • Regular remote and in-person hackathons, lunch and learns, socials, and game nights
  • Team breakfasts and lunches, snacks, drinks fridge, and a fun office at The Ministry
  • Exceptional opportunities for personal development and growth
