Job Description:

At Findorff, we bring expertise and value in construction that extends far beyond building. From humble beginnings in 1890, Findorff has now grown to become one of the region's most trusted construction firms. As an employee-owned company, our staff take pride in shaping communities through a commitment to quality and relationships. As an Estimator, you play a key role in supporting Findorff’s preconstruction and bidding efforts across a wide range of project sizes and delivery methods. You are responsible for developing accurate, well-strategized estimates while collaborating closely with owners, architects, subcontractors, and internal project teams. As experience grows, Estimators are entrusted with increasingly complex projects and greater responsibility. Success in this role is measured by the ability to deliver competitive, well-analyzed estimates, support smooth project transitions, and contribute to strong client relationships.

Job Responsibility:

  • Serve as bid captain on assigned projects, managing the bidding process from start to finish
  • Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents for scope clarity, constructability, and risk
  • Identify and contact prospective bidders using bidding software and direct outreach
  • Develop bid strategies and delivery approaches aligned with project goals
  • Coordinate quantity takeoffs, pricing, and estimate development
  • Schedule, prepare for, and lead internal pre-bid and pricing review meetings
  • Evaluate bid results and summarize key insights
  • Lead constructability reviews and scope alignment discussions
  • Identify and recommend value-engineering options, including alternate systems or materials
  • Provide cost and constructability feedback to owners and architects
  • Maintain timely and accurate budget updates aligned with the preconstruction schedule
  • Develop bid package strategies and prepare supporting documentation
  • Oversee bidding of construction documents and ensure a smooth handoff to project teams
  • Utilize historical cost data to validate budgets and refine estimates
  • Research new materials, systems, and scopes of work and provide cost insights
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for self-performed work, including SPW estimate reviews
  • Mentor and support Project Engineers by providing guidance and performance feedback as needed
  • Collaborate with project management and field teams on cost, constructability, scheduling, and general requirements
  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with owners, architects, and trade partners
  • Promote transparency and alignment throughout the project lifecycle

Requirements:

  • Strong mathematical aptitude with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage responsibilities typically associated with Project Engineer or Project Manager roles
  • Proficiency with estimating and scheduling tools including OnCenter, Destini, MS Project, and Microsoft Office
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field
  • 5-8 years of estimating experience, including bid preparation, cost analysis, and collaboration with owners and contractors
What we offer:
  • Competitive pay and benefits
  • A people-first, inclusive culture
  • Onsite fitness center
  • Heated, underground parking
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Generous PTO and floating holidays
  • Healthy 401(k) and Profit Sharing
