Join us as a Commercial and Technology Lawyer AVP at Barclays where you will be part of our Global Commercial, Innovation and Technology (CIT) Legal team which provides a range of legal services and advice across the Barclays Group at the cutting edge of law, innovation and regulation. To ensure that the commercial, innovation, technology, real estate, sponsorship, data licensing and service activities (CIT Areas) are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and to help the bank manage legal and reputational risks associated with these activities.

Job Responsibility:

  • Development and implementation of best practice legal strategies for risk management and compliance
  • Legal advice and support to the business on CIT Areas, including regulatory advice and advocacy, innovation and technology strategy, and contract drafting, review and negotiation
  • Representation of the bank in legal proceedings related to CIT Areas, such as litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations
  • Creation and review of legal documents including agreements and licenses for commercial services, technology, software, data, real estate, and sponsorship and other legal documents to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Legal research and analysis to stay up to date on changes in laws and regulations that may impact the bank across the CIT Areas
  • Developing and delivering training programmes to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements related to the CIT Areas
  • Pro-active identification, communication, and provision of legal advice on applicable laws, rules and regulations (LRRs). Keeping up to date with regards to changes to LRRs in the relevant coverage area. Ensuring that LRRs are effectively allocated to, and adequately reflected within, the relevant policies, standards and controls

Requirements:

  • Dynamic and solutions-focused senior qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister or similar in the UK or another comparable jurisdiction) with relevant post-qualification experience (in-house and/or private practice)
  • Experience advising on a range of commercial and technology agreements - supplier, client and partner facing – including, software licenses, hardware and software maintenance, SaaS and cloud services, sponsorship, professional services, data and index licensing and PoCs
  • Experience advising on and managing legal risk arising in compliance with organisational policies and standards, including advising on ways to embed better risk management across the organisation
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload, partnering with a variety of stakeholders, including Barclays’ Procurement and Technology teams and front-line business teams
  • Be a team player and work collaboratively with colleagues to contribute to the objectives of the CIT, the legal function and broader organisation

Nice to have:

  • Have an understanding of legal rules and regulations impacting service provision at to a financial services institution, such as outsourcing, ring-fencing, the appointed representative regime, operational continuity in resolution, or other relevant experience with a financial services institution
  • You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills
