Job Description:

Barking and Dagenham College have a very busy Estates & Facilities Team, and we are looking for an energetic and pro-active College Caretaker to join our team. You will join us on a full-time, 38 hours per week, permanent basis. In return we offer a competitive salary of £27,893 - £28,657 pa inc London Weighting.

Job Responsibility:

  • Maintain the cleanliness, security and safety of the premises, and the security and safety of college staff, students and visitors
  • Assist in the day-to-day operational activities of estates maintenance across all college sites
  • Operate on a 3-shift pattern
  • Daily tasks include porterage, undertaking minor painting and decorating, carpet tiling, room reconfigurations
  • Estates helpdesk
  • Intermediate IT skills required - managing helpdesk tickets and emailing communications
  • Set intruder alarms across the campus for nightly lock up
  • Use initiative to prioritise, respond to changing needs and work safely in line with health and safety
  • Log and report any breakages or damage to any item and carry out repairs and maintenance work to a safe standard
  • Carry out routine administrative tasks, as required

Requirements:

  • Educated up to GCSE Grade C/5 or equivalent
  • Awareness of COSHH regulations
  • Full driving licence
  • Experience of building trades and all round practical experience
  • Good organisational skills, including the ability to adapt to changing workload demands and new workplace challenges
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance logging systems and basic IT
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and standards
