Job Description

We are seeking an experienced COBOL Engineer to join a leading banking client in Belgium. You will play a key role in maintaining and modernising critical core banking systems that process high-volume financial transactions daily. This is an excellent opportunity to work on mission-critical applications within a stable and highly regulated financial environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Maintain, enhance, and support COBOL-based core banking applications
  • Analyse business requirements and translate them into technical specifications
  • Perform impact analysis, development, testing, and deployment
  • Ensure system reliability, performance, and compliance with banking regulations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including analysts, testers, and infrastructure teams
  • Support incident resolution and provide long-term system improvements
  • Contribute to modernisation initiatives and integration with newer technologies

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in COBOL development
  • Strong knowledge of Mainframe environments (z/OS)
  • Experience with JCL, DB2, CICS
  • Understanding of batch processing and transaction systems
  • Familiarity with version control and structured development methodologies
  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery environments
  • Prior experience in banking or financial services is highly desirable

Nice to have

  • Experience in core banking systems or payment platforms
  • Knowledge of system integration with Java or distributed applications
  • French or Dutch language skills
  • Experience in application modernisation projects
