Children Missing Education Officers act to fulfil the Local Authority's statutory duties under 436A of the Education Act 1996, to make arrangements to identify and locate Children Missing Education (CME). The Children Missing in Education Officers sits alongside the Attendance Service, who's over arching role is to ensure that children access education.
Job Responsibility:
Fulfil the Local Authority's statutory duties under 436A of the Education Act 1996 to make arrangements to identify and locate Children Missing Education (CME)
Take a lead on CME investigations to locate children believed to be missing from education
Act as a key contact for schools and children's services on matters related to children missing education
Ensure effective information sharing to ensure resources are used effectively to support the early lives of young children to help prevent poor outcomes
Take prompt action, as early intervention is crucial to discharging this duty effectively in ensuring that children are safe and receiving suitable education
Requirements:
Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent with 5 GCSE's Grade C or above including English and Mathematics
In depth understanding of the Local Authority's safeguarding duties and responsibilities, with the ability to apply them within the remit of the role
Understanding of the needs of children, parents and schools
Ability to engage and work closely with colleagues, parents, and professionals from external organisations
Strong resilience when working with conflicting priorities in a challenging and fast paced environment with tight deadlines
Ability to understand relevant legislation and guidance and apply it appropriately to the duties of the post
